Science is one of the three core subjects and allows students to understand how the world and universe works and operates. It covers all three sciences; Biology, Chemistry and Physics. The aim of the science course is to enable candidates to recognise the impact of science and technology on everyday life, make informed personal decisions about issues and questions that involve science; and to understand and reflect on the information included in media reports.

At KS4 we follow the 21st Century Science course provided by OCR. Students will by certificated for 2 GCSE’s in Science and Additional Science.
Science emphasises scientific literacy and is taught in a contemporary and relevant context to allow candidates to engage with the course. Additional Science then covers scientific principles in more detail and will provide a solid foundation in how scientists develop scientific understanding of ourselves and the world we inhabit.

As an option pathway candidates will be able to select a third science GCSE. This will give them separate awards in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
The separate Sciences are aimed at candidates who will go on to study Science at A-Level and University or those who may need a deeper understanding of science for their future careers.
