Ryedale School has a fantastic purpose built Learning Resource Centre. It is a stimulating, busy and flexible space with computers and a wide range of up-to-date resources to support curriculum teaching, promote independent learning and reading for pleasure. Our Librarian, Mrs Linsley, is available to support students with reading and research.
The LRC is open in the morning before school from 8.15 – 8.55am and at lunchtime from 12.35 – 1.30pm. During these times pupils may read, research and complete homework, draw and exchange library books. Computers in the LRC are reserved exclusively for school work. Mrs Linsley is assisted by pupil librarians at lunchtimes.
Pupils have regular access to the LRC during English and some Literacy and Study Plus lessons.
Year 11 Study Club is held in the LRC on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school until 4.50pm. Students may choose to work independently or can be supported by a member of staff.
Eclipse
Pupils can access Eclipse, our on-line library catalogue, from school or home via Moodle. (It may be necessary to download Silverlight to access Eclipse on computers outside school). Eclipse provides details of all resources in the LRC and links to approved websites which may be useful for homework and research. Eclipse also keeps pupils up to date with news from the LRC including new resources. It allows pupils to search for books they would like to read, read and write book reviews, and watch authors’ video clips. Pupils can also use Eclipse to check which books they have out on loan and when they need to be returned.
Reading for Pleasure
As a school we recognize that reading for pleasure is not only a hugely enjoyable leisure activity but also makes a considerable contribution to educational and personal development. Therefore, we strive to promote a wide range of opportunities for reading for all pupils. See latest posts and Eclipse news page for details.
Pupils are expected to have a book or other appropriate reading material with them for every English lesson and silent reading during form-time on Wednesday mornings. Mrs Linsley is happy to help any pupils who need assistance choosing a suitable book.
