English Department

English underpins the curriculum; it is through English that other subjects are taught and by using English that we are able to talk to one another, write notes or send texts and emails. English enables us to communicate effectively in speech and in writing and to understand what others are communicating to us. Good users of English know the power of language, they are able to express exactly how they feel and make themselves heard, and they have words to say in the different situations life puts them in. English makes you think about people; you can read about a whole host of different characters and even create your own; English makes you think about yourself- and ask yourself how you might react in some of the situations you read about. Finally after a busy day, English teaches you have the pleasure of settling down with a good book.
