Read, Read, Read!
During February Key Stage 3 students will be participating in Readathon. Readathon is a national organisation that promotes reading for pleasure and combines this with raising money for charities for seriously ill children. Participating students will choose a book, or a range of books, and ask for sponsorship for reading these over a fixed period. Teachers will encourage students to extend their range of reading through Readathon, but the final choice of what to read will lie with students.
It has been proved that there is a strong link between reading for pleasure and academic performance. Reading for pleasure can also have a positive effect on social and emotional well-being, so it is the readers themselves who may gain from their participation.
