Music Competition

Performing Arts LogoThis year’s Ryedale School solo music competition, with a category for KS 3 and KS 4 will take place at 4pm on Wednesday 29th January in the Paul Shuttleworth Drama Studio. Thank you to all the entrants for the preparation that you have put in. Our adjudicator is Mr Gareth Hudson, prominent local musician, and experienced ABRSM examiner. With his background, I am sure that he will get to grips instantly with the level of performance required to be successful.

This year, because there are a large number of entrants at KS 3, all pupils have to perform in a preliminary round, with the best ten pupils going forward to the final. All entrants will receive written feedback about their performance, designed to be encouraging, and also provide some tips on how to improve their performance further.

The competition is sponsored by Pickering Rotary Club, who donate a prize to the winner of each KS, and then nominate the best-placed instrumentalist and singer to compete in a Yorkshire-wide Rotary final. This is to be held on Saturday 8th March at the National Early Music Centre, in York. This is a wonderful venue, and the standard of musicianship on display is always very high indeed. Following this there is then a north of England final, and eventually a national final. For further information about the Rotary Young Musician Competition, please click here.
